BLINDER M27 & M47 Frequently Asked Questions
We at BLINDER are often asked questions about different aspects of our products. To make things easier for you we have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions to save you time. The list is broken into categories for specific issues.
M27 & M47 Installation Questions and Answers:
1. Do you recommend professional installation or can I install the M27 / M47 X-TREME myself?
BLINDER International recommends that you have your M27 / M47 X-TREME professionally installed. Site selection of the sensors and CPU is very important. There are a number of issues that need to be understood for maximum vehicle "invisibility" from laser speed guns and speed cameras. We recommend that you have your system installed by a BLINDER Dealer recommended installer. Please contact your local dealer for information. Most car audio installers and auto electricians will be able to install the HP-905 correctly.
2. How do I work out how many sensors to put on the front of the vehicle, and how many sensors to install on the rear of the vehicle?
We have a dedicated installation instructions that come with the product. Small cars would normally require an M27 X-TREME while larger SUV's and 4WD's require an M47 X-TREME.
To assist you to understand the issues involved with the correct installation of your BLINDER sensors, we have included a dedicated "installation" section which outline all the factors that need to be considered.

3. Can I install the M27 / M47 X-TREME sensors behind the windscreen or rear window, inside the vehicle?
The short answer is NO. Mounting the sensors behind automotive glass is a mistake. Almost all automotive glass has sun filtering integrated into the glass to reduce heat and glare inside the vehicle. This type of glass will almost always reduce the units detection and jamming performance.
4. Can I install the sensors deep inside my vehicles body work so they are impossible to notice?
You must be careful NOT to mount the sensors too deep behind the front grille or body work of the car, as this may restrict the sensors "field of view".
Not all speed readings of your vehicle will be taken from directly in front of your car. Sometimes speed readings will be taken from the opposite side of the road. An unobstructed field of view for the sensor is essential for the optimal performance.
5. I bought a M27 X-TREME and now wish to upgrade to a M47 X-TREME system. Do I need to buy a new CPU or only the sensors?
Answer: You can upgrade an M27 X-TREME to an M47 X-TREME without upgrading the software or CPU. You only need to purchase new sensors. The CPU will handle 4 x sensors.
6. Are there any safety issues with using the
BLINDER laser jammer Units?
Yes Do not look directly into the M27 / M47 X-TREME sensors with the naked eye when they are connected to the vehicle CPU and electrical system. You wont see anything, but you might cause eye damage after prolonged exposure as the M27 / M47 X-TREME emits high-power infrared (IR) light, which is not visible to the human eye.
M27 & M47 Operation Questions and Answers:
1. Are there any safety issues with using the
BLINDER laser jammer Units?
WARNING! Do not look directly into the M27 / M47 X-TREME sensors with the naked eye at close range. You wont see anything, but you might cause eye damage after prolonged exposure as the sensors emit high-power infra red (IR) light, which is not visible to the human eye.
PARKING SENSOR MODE - Always be aware and watch for hidden objects near the car such as children and animals that may not be detected by the system. Please use common sense and visually survey in all parking situations and do NOT rely 100% on the Park Assist feature. Visual observation is always the safest way to use parking sensor systems.
IMPORTANT: While the system is in parking mode, the laser unit will NOT respond to any incoming laser pulses!
2. After the M27 / M47 X-TREME alarms to a police laser, is there a "re-set time period" before the laser jammer is armed again.?
The M27 / M47 X-TREME takes about 60 seconds to re-arm. To immediately re-arm the system, we suggest power cycling the system to avoid this 60 second delay.
3. Do laser jammers work best in full day light or at night?
Answer: Infrared light is also part of the normal spectrum of sunlight. The brighter the day, the more infrared light is scattered about which jammer circuitry needs to contend with. It is therefore true that all laser jammer's (even the poor performers) will work best in lower light conditions due to the absence of the sun.
Some brands of laser jammer will leave you unprotected in bright sunlight or when driving into the sun late in the day. It takes special filtering software to reduce these problems so that you are effectively covered during these events.
4. Will the unit detect laser speed guns and laser speed cameras when in Parking Sensor Mode?
No. While the system is in parking mode, the laser unit will NOT respond to any incoming laser pulses!
5. Are there any safety issues when operating the unit in Parking Sensor Mode?
PARKING SENSOR MODE - Answer: The parking sensor is a close proximity warning system. The BLINDER system will detect different objects with uneven effectiveness depending on the color of the object. Bright objects reflect much better compared to dark, and will therefore allow earlier detection and warning. The BLINDER system will not detect and alert on glass or other transparent materials. Be especially cautious when parking close to shop windows and similar transparent objects.

7. Is the M27 / M47 X-TREME waterproof and can I use it on a motorcycle?
Answer: The sensor units are water proof and are designed to be placed on the exterior of the vehicle. This is not true for the CPU module which is designed to be installed in a dry cool area such as the interior of the vehicle. If you don't follow the installation instructions carefully, you may void your warranty. You can use the HP-905 on a motorcycle, but will need to keep the CPU in a water tight container or plastic bag.
8. Can I connect my HP-905 sensors to the M27 / M47 X-TREME CPU?
Answer: No. The M7 series sensor and CPU's are NOT compatible with the HP-905 Compact. Individual parts and NOT interchangeable.
M27 & M47 Software Questions and Answers:
1. Do I need to remove my M27 / M47 X-TREME CPU from my vehicle to upgrade the software?
Answer: You can leave a USB cable attached to the main CPU when you first install your BLINDER system. This way you can leave the CPU in-place and use a laptop computer inside the vehicle to complete the software upgrade. If you don't have a laptop, you will need to remove the CPU and install using a desktop computer.
2. Does the CPU require external power during the software upgrade?
Answer: No, the CPU gets all its power requirements from the USB cable.
3. Do the software upgrades cost extra to purchase?
Answer: All software upgrades are free for the life of the product.
4. How often are the software upgrades released?
BLINDER International work hard to keep our systems up-to-date with software upgrades that keep pace with changes in laser speed gun technology. We suggest registering your HP-905 with BLINDER International, and tick the box to be kept informed when new software upgrades become available.
